FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions - Rapid Rebates and Custom Rebate Programs

Q. What is the difference between Rapid Rebates (e.g. lighting, HVAC, etc) and Custom Rebates?
A. The Rapid Rebates program provides a streamlined way for DP&L customers to receive rebates for standard energy efficiency measures. Customers do not need to prove that the measures save energy. In addition, the amount of the rebates is fixed based on the equipment installed. The Custom Rebate program is for unusual equipment or process changes that will reduce energy consumption and energy demand. Under this program, the customer must prove that project will save energy and the rebate value varies depending on the amount of kWh and KW saved.
Q. How do I get started with DP&L's rebate programs?
A. First you should review the online information for the Rapid Rebates and Custom Rebate programs at www.dpandl.com. If you have questions regarding the rebate process, feel free to contact DP&L's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Management team at EnergyEfficiency@dplinc.com. In addition, DP&L's Channel Partners will be happy to assist you with any questions regarding specific types of equipment or the application process.
Q. How do I start a rebate application?
A. For lighting, HVAC, motors, compressed air rebates, or measures on the list of additional technologies, use the online Rapid Rebates Application. For custom rebates, use the online Custom Rebate Application.
Q. Can you explain the funds reservation process?
A. Based on customer feedback, DP&L has developed the funds reservation process. You submit your rebate application prior to purchasing and installing your energy saving measures. Once pre-approved, your rebate funds will be set aside until your project is installed and completed. This process ensures that even if the rebate program runs out of its annual funds, customers with pre-approved applications will still receive their rebates assuming they meet all other program requirements.
Q. When should I complete the rebate application?
A. You should complete the rebate application when you have finalized your project plans and are ready to purchase your energy efficient equipment. For the Rapid Rebates program you may complete an application after you have installed energy savings equipment, although this is strongly discouraged. Funds are not guaranteed if applications were not pre-approved. For the Custom program, all applications must be submitted in advance since DP&L will need to verify your energy baseline before existing equipment may be removed. Custom projects that are not pre-approved will be ineligible for a rebate.
Q. I am having trouble completing the rebate application. What should I do?
A. We will be happy to assist you in completing the rebate application. Please send an email to DP&L at EnergyEfficiency@dplinc.com and we will get back to you promptly.
Q. How can I check on the status of my rebate?
A. You will receive emails when the status of your rebate changes. Be sure to add dplinc.com to your list of approved email addresses. You may also check the status at any time by visiting the website and providing your confirmation number. You will find your confirmation number in the email you receive after completing your application.
Q. If I apply for a rebate under the Rapid Rebates program can I also apply under the Custom program?
A. No. Any given energy efficiency measure can receive rebates from only one program.
Q. Can I combine my DP&L rebate with rebates from other sources?
A. You are free to combine your DP&L rebate with financial incentives from any federal, state or local government program or other non-utility program. You may not receive a rebate for a measure if you already received a rebate from another utility program.
Q. Is there a limit to the amount of rebates my company can receive?
A. No, there is no rebate limit for the 2010 Business Rebate Program.
Q. How long will the rebate programs last?
A. Currently there is no plan to discontinue the rebate programs although DP&L reserves the right to discontinue or change them in the future.
Q. How do I know if there are program funds remaining?
A. If program funds are no longer available, you will be notified when trying to complete the online rebate application.
Q. If the program funds run out, will I still get my rebate?
A. Yes, but only if you have applied for a rebate and been pre-approved. If you were pre-approved, you should have received a confirmation letter notifying you that the funds are reserved. You will receive your rebate once your energy savings measures have been installed and you have submitted the required documentation.
Q. If the Rapid Rebates Programs run out of funds, can I apply for a rebate under the Custom Rebate Program?
A. No. The Custom Rebate Program is only for equipment that is not part of the Rapid Rebates Program. If the Rapid Rebates program runs out of funds, you will need to wait until the following calendar year.
Q. If the program funds have run out, when can I apply for a rebate?
A. Program funds are replenished annually. You must wait until January 1st to apply for a rebate.
Q. My rebate funds have been reserved for this year but my project won't be completed until next year. Will my rebate still be available?
A. Yes. As long as your application was pre-approved and you meet the installation deadline, you will receive your rebate.
Q. My project is taking longer than expected and I will miss my installation deadline. Will my rebate funds still be available?
A. You must complete the Rebate Extension Request form available on www.dpandl.com. We will evaluate your request and notify you of our decision.
Q. Can I apply for a rebate if my equipment was purchased in 2009?
A. No, the deadline to submit applications for equipment purchased in 2009 was March 31, 2010.
Q. I noticed that some of the rebate values changed. Does that affect the rebates I have already applied for?
A. No. Rebate values for the Rapid Rebates program will change from time to time, depending on technology improvements or market needs. However, the rebate that was available when you submitted your application will be the rebate you receive.
Q. My project is installed, when will I receive my rebate check?
A. After you have submitted your final invoice, showing proof of purchase, you will receive your rebate within 30 days.
Q. My contractor, distributor or vendor gave me a discount on the equipment. How do I assign my rebate to them?
A. You (the customer) must complete the online Rebate Assignment form and fax or mail it to DP&L. Your signature is required. The form is available on www.dpandl.com. DP&L will verify that the customer has assigned the rebate. Contractors, distributors or vendors may not use this form to assign rebates to themselves.
Q. My contractor or distributor is asking that I assign my rebate to them. Do I need to do this?
A. The terms and conditions of the sale are between the vendor and you. However, if you are assigning your rebate to the vendor, your invoice or purchase order must show that you received a markdown of equal value to the rebate being assigned. Vendors may not keep the rebate for themselves without a corresponding markdown in the price of the equipment.
Q. Can I install the energy efficient measure myself and still receive a rebate?
A. Yes, there is no requirement that you use a contractor or other third party for installation.
